Wanslea is proud to announce the extension of its partnership with BHP to help make child care more accessible across the Pilbara. This collaboration aims to support local families especially mothers returning to the workforce, and create new career opportunities for local educators.

As a leading Family Day Care agency in Western Australia, Wanslea connects families with flexible, home-based early education options. Together with BHP, Wanslea is addressing the critical shortage of child care services in the region by expanding Family Day Care - small, personalised child care provided in the homes of qualified educators.

“Child care in the Pilbara has long been in short supply,” said Wanslea’s Head of Early Years, Linda Santangeli. “Our partnership with BHP is about more than just increasing availability, it’s about supporting families and investing in the local community.”

As part of the initiative, BHP is offering a comprehensive support package to encourage individuals to become Family Day Care Educators in the Pilbara. Successful candidates will receive access to a $5,000 grant to help equip their daycare with essential resources (T&Cs apply), and in many cases, accommodation is provided at a subsidised rent allowing Educators to both live and work from the same space. Educators also have the freedom to set their own fees with no cap on earnings, and they benefit from ongoing professional support from Wanslea.

Family Day Care offers care for up to seven children in an Educator’s home, with availability during weekdays, weekends, evenings, and even overnight offering the flexibility many Pilbara families need.

This partnership is a meaningful step toward solving long-standing child care challenges in the region, while also contributing to workforce participation and community well-being.
