Grandcare™

Support for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren

Kwondongs
Quandongs are a native peach ripening in the season of Kambarang (October/November)

Are you caring for your grandchildren full time? It can be a stressful and challenging role, especially without any help.

You don’t have to do it alone. The Grandcare program connects and supports grandparent carers across Western Australia who need a helping hand to ensure their family is healthy, happy and safe.

As a grandparent carer, we can help you:

  • Understand the many community resources and services that are available to you, including Wanslea’s services
  • Get advice and guidance regarding your role
  • Connect with other grandparent carers through monthly Grandcare support groups
  • Gain access to Foodbank
  • Gain access to activities, training and other events

Elvie’s story

I have been a part of the Wanslea family for about 8 years now. This year I received an Office Works voucher, which I used to purchase all my grandson’s stationery for year ten. Wanslea also donated a refurbished computer to help with his studies and this has been a godsend because he was always handing in assignments late because I could not afford a computer for him. Over the years Wanslea has assisted in keeping my grandson in Scouts because Kidsports stop assisting with the fees. With Wanslea’s ongoing support my grandson has been able to be a normal kid, getting out there having fun with other kids his own age with the same interests as him. I cannot thank this organisation enough for all the help and support I have received.

Shirley’s story

Thank you so much Wanslea Grandcare for providing your endless ongoing support to myself and my children. By providing accommodation vouchers, (we were able to go on an) awesome enjoyable and exciting break in Perth WA, away from our home in the Pilbara.

How to join the Grandcare™ program

1. Check your eligibility

This program is available to grandparents who provide full-time, primary care for their grandchildren aged under 18 years because the children’s parents are unable or unwilling to do so. The program is available to “informal” grandparent carers who do not receive regular financial support from the Department of Communities.

2. Talk to us

Contact the Grandcare™ team on 1800 794 909 and speak to us about how we can assist you. If the phone line is busy, please leave a message with your full name, phone number and a brief reason for your call.  We will get back to you as soon as possible.

As much as we'd love to meet you, dropping into the office isn't the best way to catch-up with our Grandcare team. So that we can make ourselves available to meet your needs, please phone to arrange a good time to chat, either in-person or over the phone.

3. Join our network

We’ll be here to help you develop a deeper understanding of the grandparent carer role, make connections with other grandparent carers and feel more informed about resources and services that are available to help you.
